Event description

Description

This cross-studio class will focus on combining hot, warm and cold techniques to create intricately-patterned solid and hollow murrini. Some finished pieces will include panels, vessels and sculpture. We will also cover basic cold-working techniques to find solutions to finish pieces as well as investigate cold, warm and hot connections to fit murrini components together and build 3 dimensional pieces. We will look at murrini work from ancient to contemporary times and our emphasis will be on design, method and concept. Students will be asked to push the possibilities of design and to let go of their normal way of working. Students should bring sketchbooks and source materials (such as drawings and internet research related to color and design).

Previous experience in hot-working would be helpful but not necessary.
