Event description

Description

You are invited to join our workshop focused on expanding Environmental and Sustainability Education in teacher preparation programs.

Teacher Environmental Education Preparation (TEEP)is a project of the Environmental Education Advisory Council (EEAC). The purpose of TEEP is to motivate colleges of education in New York State to include more environmental/sustainability education (ESE) in their teacher preparation programs. Within the context of the current global and national situation, climate change is a major focus of ESE.

While the Standards in most curriculum areas in New York State contain a significant amount of environmental content, as do Regents examinations in science and social studies, most teachers are not trained in the content or processes of ESE.

TEEP has held seven symposiums and two workshops throughout the state to address this issue. The third workshop, to be held at NYU in December 2018 will report on recent advances and plans for the future. Participants will be actively engaged in workshop activities. Environmental education issues and activities associated with TEEP’s goals, even if not directly related to teacher preparation, are also part of the program package.
