What: Building Stress Resilience for Parents of a Child with ASD

About: Dr. Elissa Epel, a health psychologist, shares new science on caregiving effects as well as stress resilience in parenting a child with ASD, and a preview of the new SMART (Sustainable Mindfulness And Resilience Training) class being offered at the STAR clinic.

Speaker bio: Elissa Epel, Ph.D, is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, at University of California, San Francisco. She is the Director of the Aging, Metabolism, and Emotions Center, and the Consortium for Obesity Assessment, Study, & Treatment, (COAST), and Associate Director of the Center for Health and Community. She is the President Elect of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, and on the Steering Council for Mind & Life Institute as well. She is conducting clinical trials to examine the effect of self-regulation and mindfulness training programs on cellular aging, weight, diet, and glucose control.
