Event description

Description

The Permanent Missions of the Republic of Korea, Sweden, Indonesia and Tunisia in association with New York University’s Center on International Cooperation, will host a High-Level side event aimed at deepening engagement and building support amongst member states and key stakeholders for the work on advancing social, economic and political inclusion and equality.

The Grand Challenge on inequality and exclusion forms part of the multistakeholder Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies. This partnership brings together over 40 governments, multilateral and civil society organizations behind a Roadmap to accelerate the implementation of the targets for peaceful, just and inclusive societies in the SDGs. The Roadmap identifies a number of catalytic actions which can be adapted and scaled up quickly, as well as areas where there is a lack of both evidence and political consensus on the policies required. These Grand Challenges include rising inequality and exclusion.

This side-event will:

  • Feature the presentation of a Challenge Paper on Reversing Inequality and Exclusion.

  • Present examples of successful policy initiatives taken by a number of countries and stakeholders to deal with rising inequality and exclusion

  • Highlight examples of international and national implementation and commitment, with a focus on innovative approaches, visions, models, and tools that member states have developed in line with their national circumstances and priorities.

  • Deepen engagement on the Pathfinders’ grand challenge of inequality and exclusion and build support amongst member states and key stakeholders for the work on advancing social, political and economic inclusion and equality.
