Event description

You are invited to attend Building Inclusive Financial Spaces: A Convening Supporting Returning Citizens in Entrepreneurship and Credit Building, an event made possible through a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration and organized locally by the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry and supporting planning partners Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Economic Community Development Institute (ECDI), Fund for Our Economic Future, and Reentry Solutions.

About the convening

This convening is one of three organized by Credit Builders Alliance and is designed to increase the impact of mission-driven organizations serving or seeking to serve Returning Citizens, in particular entrepreneurs and those facing credit challenges. We hope to facilitate dialogue among community stakeholders about the existing and/or potential role of credit building in reentry and recidivism-prevention efforts.

The event will provide:

  • A discussion of the challenges faced by Returning Citizens, including legal barriers;

  • Training on the use of CBA's toolkit, "Achieving Credit Strength: A Toolkit for Supporting Returning Citizen Entrepreneurs"; and

  • Facilitated discussion around legal services, credit building and small business development products/services that support the financial stability of returning citizens pre- and post-incarceration.

Learn about collaborative models with proven success and share best practices, resources and ideas that meet the needs of local programs and beyond!

Who should attend?

The convening is open to all (local and national) and is free to attend.

The target audience includes those engaged in the criminal justice space, particularly those who focus on the aspect of economic justice. Attendees may include non-profit and community-based organizations, municipal leaders, funders and/or financial institutions, attorneys, and other stakeholders (including those with lived experience) supporting the pre- and post-release efforts of those who are justice exposed. While some content may be Cleveland focused, we hope that the takeaways will expand beyond.

**Limited sub-grants are available for those traveling from out of town, to help defray travel costs. Learn more, or apply here.

Registration will begin at 8:00 am and the session will kick-off at 8:30 am. A light continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The day will conclude by 3:00 pm. View the draft agenda here.
