Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Every Christmas parents start asking their children “What do you want for Christmas this year?” Some will tell the children to make a list. I believe that the most important gift we can give is self esteem. Give them the ability to feel good about themselves and others.

You have seen children who do not like themselves or others. They have trouble getting along in groups and in almost any social situation. Many children question their worth and wonder if their peers really do like them. The self doubt causes children to have extra trouble getting along with their parents, neighbors, teachers and classmates. Children who lack self esteem have a negative attitude about life and are covered with loneliness.

However, those with self esteem seem to see life from a positive view point and making friends is much less stressful, less illness and excel in the classroom. Self esteem is the key to a happy and productive life. Therefore, each year, month and day, the greatest gift that we can give our children is self esteem.

In order to pass this gift along to them, I feel that we must give them 10 sub-gifts:

  1. A Good Name
  2. An Ear
  3. Permission for Feelings
  4. Power to Make a Decision
  5. Rules
  6. Hugs
  7. Laughter
  8. Permission for Mistakes
  9. Tell the Truth
  10. Freedom

These 10 building blocks make for a foundation that produces children who in turn develop into healthy emotional adults leading to strong families and outstanding citizens which will then culminate into a great nation. The basic principle is based on the presupposition that all children are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity and that includes us all.

While spiced with humorous stories and illustrations, the programs' power is its hard-hitting practical steps. It is down-to-earth and provides innovative techniques.
