Please join the Prince William Area Child Protection Partnership as we bring you this Fall's educational and networking conference. This year we will be learning about how to communicate with schools in a way that ensures both professionals and parents have the tools to communicate and advocate effectively and in the best interest of their child.

Keynote Address: Kevin D. Newman, Superintendent, City of Manassas


Understanding Trauma's Impact on Children's Brains and Behavior: Allyson Halverson




Additionally we will have 4 breakout workshop sessions:

1) School Readiness

This workshop will help providers that work with children who are struggling functioning school. Presenters will discuss self-regulation, following routines, and overall school readiness.

2) Advocacy for Special Education Needs: Joan H. Proper, PC

This breakout session will focus on an overview of referring for eligibility, eligibility, basic overview of what an IEP is, and interplay with discipline

For over three years Joan H. Proper, PC has volunteered once a month at The Arc of Greater Prince William to provide free special education consultations to families. Her law office is committed to not just solving immediate needs, but ensuring you and your loved ones obtain the support needed to be successful in the future. Her firm's commitment to individuals and families is evident in their representation in juvenile/young adult, education, family law, and guardianship and conservatorship cases. Ms. Joan Proper has worked in Northern Virginia for her entire career, first as an educator and then as an attorney.

3) School Engagement for Recently Reunified Families: Yasmin Ventura & Liliana Janssen-Checa


4) Special Education Hacks: Making IEPs Really Work for Students with Disabilities - Beth Spivack

Make special education evaluation and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) the meaningful tools they should be! Join us for an overview of special education basics, featuring some key “hacks” designed to support families of children and youth with disabilities and the professionals that work with our students.


Closing Keynote: Mindfulness & Anxiety


Included for the day will be a Light Continental Breakfast, Coffee and Water as well as Panera Boxed Lunches.
