Building Bridges: Core Concepts for Enhancing Diversity-Informed Practice w...
Event Information
Description
You are invited to attend the Early Childhood Mental Health Community of Practice's Annual Training!
As the U.S. becomes increasingly culturally diverse, there is an urgent need for practitioners to learn effective ways to work with individuals and families from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Across numerous service sectors, we see disparities in access to care, service utilization, and attrition that are linked to aspects of diversity including ethnicity and socioeconomic status. How do we understand these disparities? What can we do to better engage diverse populations? This talk introduces core concepts for enhancing diversity-informed practice and introduces case material to show how these concepts can help us understand interactional processes that may be central to engagement.
Training Objectives:
-
Participants will become familiar with at least three core concepts related to trauma and diversity
-
Participants will gain familiarity with the concept of historical trauma and understand how historical trauma may affect engagement with service providers.
-
Participants will understand the connection between strong emotions and the tendency to use less flexible thinking and employ stereotypes.
