Event description

Description

Asheville Friends Meeting, Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville and Steps2peace are excited to welcome you to register for our second day long training in living and practicing Nonviolent (Compassionate) Communication and Consciousness!

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a communication of connection rather than division; of authenticity and honest (even scary) self expression, not fake pretense for the sake of the appearance of harmony. It is about finding your own voice and hearing others' voices. We are creating connections that value everyone's humanity.

Everyone is welcome to this event- suitable for continuing practitioners of NVC and newcomers; we will create a safe and alive learning community together. Scholarships are available, please inquire at info@steps2peace.com.

Connecting Across Divides
In the above photo you see Israeli Jews, Israeli Palestinians, Palestinians from the West Bank, religious and non religious- all together, using Nonviolent Communication to open their hearts to each other, to find words to express what is important to them, to cultivate curiosity about the "other", to learn and practice a communication that is grounded in a willingness to find and be impacted by the humanity of the "other". Roberta Wall will facilitate our day here in Asheville after returning from 6 weeks of sharing NVC with Israelis and Palestinians in the Mideast.

It's long over due for us to begin and deepen this process of connecting across divides here in the U.S. Whether we sit at the tables of friends, neighbors and family, or people from vastly different backgrounds. A nonviolent future is possible when we talk, express our dreams and fears, learn how to generate curiosity in our own hearts toward other positions- and also to express more effectively what is deeply important to us.

In this day-long interactive workshop, CNVC Certified Trainer Roberta Wall will guide us in applying the principles and consciousness of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). This workshop will help foster heart-centered communication - even when it may feel hopeless - within your family & friends as well as the larger community. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and apply NVC in difficult and challenging contexts of their choosing. This inspiring training is highly effective for everyone, including activists and those intentionally engaging in the conflicts present in our society.

Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville, Asheville Friends Meeting and Steps2peace are co-sponsoring this workshop. EHSA members, Building Bridges graduates and Friends Meeting members are invited to offer a contribution of $80, discounted from the suggested public-at-large contribution of $100.

Roberta Wall, an Asheville resident, will offer this workshop shortly after she returns from 6 weeks of sharing and teaching Nonviolent Communication in Israel and Palestine. The funds collected from this workhop are used to support this work in the Mideast. See her website for more information: www.steps2peace.com
