Event description

Description

The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties in partnership with PEAK Parent Center invites parents of school-aged children (ages 5-14) with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) to learn about what is necessary to adequately support children in the classroom, the doctor’s office and community.

Feb 27 – April 3
*No class March 20
6:00 - 8:15 PM
5 week class on Wednesdays: Please only select the first date on Eventbrite; the one-time registration fee covers all sessions.

Location: Fremont Learning Center, 14603 E Fremont Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111. Located in the same building as Options and the Professional Learning Center- the first entrance off Jordan onto Fremont. There is a sign at that entrance (Transition Center) and the road winds around to the back of the building to the main entrance.

During this educational series, participants will receive information about services and supports for children with I/DD. The program will educate parents by helping them learn of resources they may not realize they have access to. Participants will also learn how to address 504 and/or Individualized Education Program (IEP) concerns, and how to navigate the Wrightslaw Special Education website. At the conclusion of this series, parents will have a better understanding of the child system: single entry points, waivers, healthcare, private insurance and Medicaid.

Children's advocates from The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties will conduct a panel and take questions from the audience. And PEAK Parent Center will conduct an IEP training on March 27.
