Event description

Description

On Sunday, October 13 from 2:00-4:00 pm, Dr. Charles “Stormy” Mayo will delight visitors with an account of the building of his 43’ Murray Peterson Coaster Istar.

Dr. Mayo is perhaps best known for his work as director of the right whale ecology program at Provincetown’s Center for Coastal Studies, but he also spent a good part of his life engrossed in the unyielding undertaking of building his 43-foot boat -- it took him nearly 40 years to build Istarin his own backyard in Provincetown.

From the planning and the dreaming, to the decades of construction -- including the desire on numerous occasions to take a chainsaw to the hull -- to the ultimate experience of Istar’s maiden voyage to the Bahamas; Dr. Mayo will recount the failures and successes of a very personal experience. This will be his first time presenting this talk.
