About this event
Faithful ministry with LGBTQ youth means listening to, believing, and seeking to understand the reality of the youth in our care. This is easy to say, but difficult to do in practice. Political and societal pressures can prevent us from seeing and understanding the young people standing in front of us. In this session, we'll talk about sources of resistance to LGBTQ (and especially transgender) youth, including the political and societal attacks they're facing. We'll discuss how to rise above these attacks and be the allies and ministers they need.
Join Ross Murray, author of "Made, Known, Loved: Developing LGBTQ-Inclusive Youth Ministry," for an hour of wisdom, action steps, and discussion!
This is a 60 minute lecture-based workshop with a time for discussion and questions. The workshop is open to everyone, and will be recorded. We'll be sending a link to the video out to all ticketholders after the session, so you'll be able to view the event even if you can't participate on the day.
About the presenter: Ross Murray is an ordained Deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, with a calling to advocate for LGBTQ people and to bridge the LGBTQ and faith communities. He serves as Vice President at The GLAAD Media Institute. Ross is also a founder and director of The Naming Project, a faith-based camp for LGBTQ youth and their allies. Additionally, he is a producer for the "Yass, Jesus!" podcast, a faith and sexuality affirming podcast that believes you don't have to pick between gay and God. His book, Made, Known, Loved: Developing LGBTQ-Inclusive Youth Ministry, and his next book, The Everyday Advocate: Living Out Your Calling to Social Justice. He is a member of the 2021 OUT100 and was named one of Mashable’s “10 LGBT-Rights Activists to Follow on Twitter.”
This workshop is presented by Transmission Ministry Collective, a community dedicated to the spiritual care, faith formation, and leadership potential of transgender and gender-expansive Christians.
