In their eagerness to pursue their mission, organizations often overlook the groundwork necessary to create a sustainable a volunteer program.

This hands-on workshop will guide you through building the tools and resources for a successful volunteer program including policies and procedures, a volunteer application, job description, volunteer handbook, orientation checklist, liability waiver and more.

Participation in this workshop will help you:

  • Identify the fundamental tool and resources needed for a successful volunteer Program
  • Understand key policies and procedures for managing volunteers
  • Develop a table of contents for a volunteer manual
  • Learn the components of an effective volunteer job description
  • Identify acknowledgements recommended to protect your volunteers and your agency
  • Establish a checklist for volunteer orientation and training

Please bring samples of your current materials and be ready to ‘roll-up up your sleeves’ and work.

The course is ideal for anyone responsible for managing volunteers including nonprofit volunteer managers, executive directors, program managers, and volunteer leaders.

Facilitator: Karen Reid, MA, CVA

As founder and principal of Kaber Communications, Karen draws on her extensive expertise to
help organizations cultivate dynamic engagement programs so they can provide meaningful,
relevant volunteer opportunities. An accomplished trainer and speaker, Karen is Certified in Volunteer Administration and has overseen successful volunteer programs throughout the U.S. She holds an MA in Journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Karen currently sits on the International Association of Business Communicators Foundation Committee and is Communications Chair for the Texas Volunteer Management Conference. She is a member of DADV, DOVIA, the DFW Academy of Culture Ambassadors and Al!ve.
