Join us on August 21 as we highlight these mission-driven entrepreneurs who are prioritizing social impact, helping people in need, and solving the biggest global challenges.

We’ll hear what makes developing a mission-driven startup different from other startups, and how mission is incorporated at a practical, daily level.

About the panelists

  • Michael Faye, Co-founder & President of GiveDirectly - Michael Faye is the President and co-founder of GiveDirectly, which has been ranked a top international charity by GiveWell, recognized by FastCompany as one of the top 10 most innovative companies in finance, and was said to be “sending shockwaves through the charity sector” by the Guardian. He's also the CEO and co-founder of Segovia Technology, which is making it easier for organizations to pay anyone, anytime, anywhere in the emerging markets. Michael’s work on international development has been published in the American Economic Review, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, Foreign Affairs and he’s spoken extensively on development and philanthropy. This year he joined the World Economic Forum’s community of Young Global Leaders. In addition, Michael is a term member of the Council of Foreign Relations and was named one of Foreign Policy’s 100 leading Global Thinkers in 2013. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard, where he also studied Math and Classics.
  • David Bolotsky, Founder & CEO of UncommonGoods - In 1999, Dave founded UncommonGoods, the pioneering website for handmade and independently designed products. UncommonGoods became a founding B Corp in 2007, focusing on delivering a positive social and environmental impact, in addition to generating profits. UncommonGoods is independently owned and has taken a “slow money” approach to its business; it has grown gradually, provides stock options to all 200+ year-round team members, runs the business (including warehouse and call center) under one roof in Sunset Park and pays a starting hourly wage of $17 for seasonal workers (year-round workers earn more). Dave has been actively involved in the successful legislation to provide New Yorkers with Paid Family Leave and a higher minimum wage. These practices contributed to UncommonGoods being named a 2018 Forbes Small Giant and Dave being named a Business Champion by Family Values at Work.
  • Maggie Hureau, Head of Social Impact at Harry's - Maggie Hureau leads Social Impact at Harry’s, working in deep partnership with nonprofit organizations to ensure that 500,000 more men get access to mental health care by 2021. Prior to joining Harry's, Maggie spent 15 years working with City Year, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support to the most underserved schools in America. Her direct service work in schools and communities across New York City led her into the development and partnership space, specializing in increasing organizational impact and reach. Maggie is a graduate of Eugene Lang College at The New School, with a degree in Urban Studies. She currently lives in Queens and is a certified reiki practitioner.
  • Kendra Peavy, VP of Global Communications at S'well - A passionate strategic communications specialist, Kendra Peavy boasts nearly two decades of integrated marketing experience with emphasis in public relations, content development and team building. Kendra is the Vice President of Global Communications at S’well, overseeing global communications strategy and execution. As part of the senior management team, she guides external positioning, brand visibility, content creation and corporate social responsibility. Kendra approaches every facet of her role through the lens of building business and culture. Prior to S'well, Kendra was General Manager, Director of Development at Digennaro Communications (DGC), a business-to-business communications agency.
