Event description

Description

This training is offered by the King County Office of Equity and Social Justice in conjunction with the Hackman Consulting Group.

King County has a nationally-recognized Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) Strategic Plan, and we need more of our leaders – managers, supervisors, equity leads – to have the knowledge, skills and competencies to implement the Plan and create an equitable and racially just organization and community.

Training deliverables

Participants will develop a common racial equity framework and language and build their core competencies on racial justice, applying a critical race lens to King County systems, policies, practices and programs. Specifically, participants will be able to:

  • Clearly articulate the difference between a diversity, cultural competency and racial justice approach
  • Identify the need for a racial equity focus for our organization’s continued efficacy and ability to meet its mission and vision
  • Constructively talk about race and racial narratives in the U.S.
  • Assess the impacts of racism and whiteness in our organization and know how to interrupt those dynamics
  • Align with King County’s vision for anti-racism and racially just transformation in our organization, team, department/agency
  • Recognize the life-long learning needed to develop one’s own competencies on racial justice
  • Apply knowledge of racism and Whiteness and identify concrete steps for transforming a department/agency’s systems, policies, practices and programs to be in line with anti-racism and racially equitable organizational transformation

This training is strongly encouraged for all:

  • King County Manager and Supervisors
  • Department and agency ESJ Team Members and ESJ Strategic Plan Goal Area Team Leads
  • Members of the Equity Impact Review Cohort

This is a three day training, and you must attend the full time on all days, 8:30 am to 5 pm:

Day 1: October 12th
Day 2: November 16th
Day 3: December 7th
