About this Event

Part I: Efficient Table Work– A Guide to Digesting a Script for Performance (Part 1 of Building a Character)

Techniques taught: Stanislavsky Spine Theory, Clurman Perspectives, Brechtian Episodic (Dialectical) Structure, Richard Schechner Ritual Performance, Meyerhold Biomechanics

Day 1: Discovering the Performance Text (4hrs)

In this class we look at what it means to take a script and digest it with the intention to perform it.

We will examine why we perform, why that matters, and why first impulses are the fruits of brilliance.

The artist will learn how to not fall into the pitfalls of a 'first read.' The artist will learn to remain fresh and open.

Day 2: Form and Purpose of Performance (4hrs)

What is the purpose of performance? Are well telling a story? Creating a feeling? Creating a thought?

We examine form, spine, character.

The artist will learn to use the tools in front of them to create concise choices and know to find inspiration in a fast way.

Good class for those learning how to understand sides fast for auditions.

Day 3: The Breakdown (4hrs)

In this the last class of Part 1, we break down the script into manageable parts. We try to make the text active.

The artist will learn how to codify the goings on, what is essential, and what is not. The artist, by the end of the class, will have enough tools to memorized and be ready for the next steps in rehearsal.

The artist can choose to take the next class or end their experience here.
