Builders, Housewives, and the Creation of Modern Athens
Thu, April 13, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM EDT
To mark the publication of Builders, Housewives, and the Construction of Modern Athens (Artifice, 2016), author Ioanna Theocharopoulou will present some of the main ideas in her book and consider how these ideas might be relevant beyond the specific example of Athens, for world cities today. How does architecture contribute to identity, construction and reconstruction? And in light of Greece’s recent financial crisis, what role might architecture play in building an equitable and sustainable 21st century city?
Speaker: Ioanna Theocharopoulou, Assistant Professor of Interior Design
Host: Sarah Lichtman, Assistant Professor of Design History
Sponsored by Parsons' School of Constructed Environments.
