Based on the assumption that everyone is their own theologian (explorer of religious truth), this classic UU adult education program invites participants to develop their own personal credos over an eight-session, Tuesday night, lay-led class. Unlike other faith traditions that impose creeds and/or professions of faith, Unitarian Universalism invites members to think for themselves and to explore their own beliefs. While it’s easier to dismiss what we don’t or no longer believe, it’s an entirely different proposition to arrive at what you do believe – about yourself, the world, the human race, our purpose on Earth, and yes, even a force/energy/God that may or may not be behind it all. This program is designed to provide a systematic approach to the process of building a new personal theology on the residue of the old (if it exists). Tools will be provided throughout the process, including the community of others seeking to build their own unique theology.

Unitarian Universalism, without its own creed, is often accused of not believing in anything. On the contrary, our members share in a wide variety of beliefs. If you’ve recently left a former religious tradition (or are considering doing so), or if you simply wish to grow in your faith, this class is for you. Don’t let the rat race of life prevent you from asking and attempting to answer life’s “important questions.” This is not an easy endeavor, to be sure, but one based on the experience of others who have completed the course, a worthwhile undertaking. It’s a large investment and a privilege at the same time, one that takes individuals seriously and sees them as members of a learning community.

For more information about the Build Your Own Theology class, talk to Jackee Orozco (414-739-4258, jackee.orozco@ucnorth.org) or John Hoff )262-377-3358, johnhoff@att.net). Both are eager to discuss with you this program and to answer any questions you may have.
