Build your own DIY Cellphone Spectrometer
Monday, April 29, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (CDT)
Spectrometers allow you to identify unknown substances by comparing their spectrums to the spectrums of known substances. They are especially useful in detecting the presence of contaminants in water.
In this workshop you wil learn:
- learn the basic theory behind spectrophotometery
- How to build your own spectrometer
- How to use it to detect oil spills
- how to take advantage of open source analysis tools
By the end of the class you will have a working spectrometer that you can use where ever you can bring your cellphone.
Bonus: You will be able to use your new found knowledge of spectrometers and spectral analysis to enter the http://spectralchallenge.org/ ($1000+ in prizes)
