Description

The Department of Small & Local Business Development has trained over 1000 entrepreneurs with the 10-hour, Build a Dream curriculum. We are excited to also train and support you!

This free workshop is for anyone who is interested in exploring how to start their own business by networking with your peers, helpful for both new and experienced entrepreneurs. The immersive workshop will cover lean canvas, customer discovery, basic business financials, and pitching in all its forms.

The fall series will run Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm, November 1-December 6, excluding the Thanksgiving Holiday. Please register for each of the training events:

  • November 1, Introduction to Lean Canvas
  • November 8, Customer Discovery
  • November 15, Basic Business Financials
  • Holiday break
  • November 29, Pitching in All Its Forms
  • December 6, Participant Pitch Practice

We have a community co-trainer joining, Fonta Gilliam, the CEO and Founder of Invest Sou Sou, a fintech social enterprise based in Washington, DC. Invest Sou Sou helps people save, invest and build strong credit, together with their community bank. Banks license the Invest Sou Sou lending circle platform to grow new deposits and make loans to credit-ready customers in a secure and cost-efficient way.

Can I attend again if I participated in a previous trianing?

Yes.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We are located directly above the 4th Street, NW, entrance to the Judiciary Square metro on the Redline. While street parking is available, it can be challenging. We recommed considering public transportation if that is an option.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, but it is helpful to pre-register to ensure that you receive any updated or last minute information.
