We are very excited to welcome you for our first Hackathon @ PLUG! It doesn't matter if you are a student, industry veteran or the next Steve Wozniack. We are open to everyone!
Teams: If you don't have a team, DON'T WORRY! The whole point of this preparation event is for you meet your future teammates. (Pre-formed teams are welcome/4ppl max).
Goal: Your goal will be to create a BOT for the inSitu mobile application (a field sales app that features mobile invoicing, estimates and inventory pricing) that will be used as a consulting tool to provide information about the company, package/invoice status, and other features you can think of.
Agenda: This event is a preparation event for the actual Hackathon on December 10. At this meetup, you'll be able to form teams and learn more about the context, inSitu, and API.
Price: This preparation event is completely free -- drinks and snacks are on us. The Hackathon on December 10 is also free for participants and $20 for observers. However, you must be registered in order to attend both events.
Prizes: We’re currently working on coming up with some great prizes so stay tuned for their reveal! You can at least expect some good material to put on your resume, meet other coders and at most, inSitu will actually make your Bot!
So why Bots?
Because Bots are awesome and they make our lives better! They are applications designed to automate the kinds of tasks you would usually do on your own, such as making a dinner reservation, adding an appointment to your calendar, or fetching information. Bots are exponentially increasing in number and are cleverly hiding behind what appear to be messaging apps— or are at least they are designed to look that way. Some of the best Bots are indistinguishable from human to human interaction and are an incredibly hot topic right now.
We are encouraging the use of natural language processing, voice recognition, and AI. We also welcome other innovative solutions related to messengers (sms, slack). To be fair, all code produced during the event will be open source.
