Event description
On 2 October 2021 we hope to see Bude Sea Pool full of Channel Challenge swimmers again!

About this event

No need to go to Dover or Calais to swim the distance of the English Channel - on Saturday 2 October 2021 Bude Sea Pool invite experienced swimmers to form a team of two or more to swim a total of 22 miles over the whole day.

Our annual Channel Challenge is now a key event in the Bude Sea Pool calendar and has become one of our biggest fundraisers - contributing vital funds to help keep our beloved pool open and safe. With the cancellation of the 2020 event, due to the pandemic, we are keeping everything crossed that we will be able to run the 2021 event in October.

We will review any Covid restrictions and government guidance at the end of August to make a final decision as to whether the event can go ahead as planned.

We welcome teams from all over the UK - some might be in training for an attempt at the real channel, some perhaps just looking for a great challenge towards the end of the open water summer season, others might just be keen to have a dip in our iconic pool and raise some money while they're at it!  Whatever you reason, we're looking forward to welcoming you on October 2nd!

Organizer Bude Sea Pool

Organizer of Bude Sea Pool Channel Challenge 2021

Bude Sea Pool is a semi-natural pool that has provided a haven for free and safe bathing and other water-based activities since the 1930s. Access to Bude Sea Pool is unrestricted and free of any admission charge, although it costs over £30,000 every year to keep it open and safe. Almost 60,000 people visit Bude Sea Pool every year, making it the Number One visitor attraction in Bude.

It is managed by the Friends of Bude Sea Pool (FoBSP), a local charity that aims to preserve, improve and enhance Bude Sea Pool as a free amenity for the benefit of the community and the thousands of people who visit the town every year. The FoBSP receives no public funding, so we rely on you to give us your support to keep Bude Sea Pool going and to enhance this unique facility.
