Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation

A Five-Week Introductory Class

with Nina Gold & Louije Kim

Five Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm

January 28, February 4, 11, 18 & 25

Daylong retreat on Saturday, February 22 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

This class will explore the basic teachings of the Buddha in both meditation practice and daily life. We will introduce and deepen the practice of mindfulness, with the aim of integrating mindfulness into all aspects of our lives. Each session will include guided meditation instruction, talks on fundamental Buddhist teachings, and time for questions and discussion. This class is appropriate for those new to meditation as well as those wishing to refine their existing practice. People of all ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities are welcome.

Teacher Dana: The teachers are supported solely by your donations for their time and teachings (they do not receive any portion of the registration fee). Suggested donations are $50 to $125 for the five-week evening class series (or $10 to $25 per class) and $25 to $100 for the daylong. This amount can be offered to the teacher by cash or check (payable to SF Insight) at the first class or at each individual class.

What to Bring: Please bring your lunch to the daylong retreat.

For Additional Information: Call 415-727-6220.

Nina Gold has been practicing Insight meditation since 2007. She is a graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach and is currently a student in Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leaders program. Nina is also a yoga teacher, teaching in the Iyengar method since 1998. She was born and raised in San Francisco and lives there now with her husband, daughter and dog. She loves truth and opening to the whole of life as practice. Dharma practice has profoundly transformed her and she shares these teachings with gratitude and joy.

Louije Kim is a community mental health therapist and dharma practitioner in the SF Bay Area. They are a part of the current Spirit Rock Teacher Training cohort. Louije is most drawn to practice in the style of Burmese monastic Sayadaw U Tejaniya as promulgated by Western convert Buddhist teachers. They are deeply committed to the personal and collective liberation of local communities.

Since we want our classes to be accessible to as many sangha members as possible, we offer our classes on a sliding scale registration fee basis. For those unable to afford the low end of the sliding scale, some limited income and scholarship slots are available (please call 415-727-6220 prior to the first class if the registration fee is an obstacle to your participation). Please consider the highest level that you can donate in order to support those who have fewer resources. We ask for your commitment to the full class series. Series classes build on one another; your commitment supports coherence of the teachings and allows the participants to mature as a group.
