About Joel Gehman
Dr. Joel Gehman, University of Alberta's Assistant Professor of Strategic Management and Organization, studies the organization of concerns: How do concerns related to sustainability and values affect organizational strategies, technology innovation, and institutional arrangements? And reciprocally, how do organizations, innovation and institutions affect the emergence and trajectories of cultural concerns? In approaching these questions, Gehman draws primarily on organization theory, together with insights from strategic management, and science and technology studies. Among many other awards, Dr. Gehman won the People’s Choice Award from the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability in 2014 and 2015 for his research on unconventional well siting and B Corporations respectively. Gehman previously spent 13 years in industry as an entrepreneur, manager and executive in the areas of management consulting, business development, technology management, and marketing strategy. He regularly advises and consults with diverse organizations. He graduated from Cornell University (B.S.) and the Pennsylvania State University (Ph.D.).
