Event description

Description

All spaces are currently filled, however a number of reserve places are available in case of drop outs. Please click ‘Register’ to be added to this waiting list.

You may not have heard of them or paid them much attention, but bryophytes (a group of plants that includes mosses, liverworts and hornworts) can be found almost everywhere. They are incredibly diverse in size and form – mosses can range from the microscopic to over a metre! – and can also be useful habitat indicators.

We want to get more people looking at Fife’s bryophytes!

Join us as expert Clare Rickerby gives an introduction to this fascinating group, including key features and identifying them in the field. Tea, coffee and sign in from 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

No experience necessary. We will spend time indoors and outdoors and the day will include some walking. This event is suitable for over 16s; under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Essential equipment will be provided, but if you have your own hand lens or identification guides, feel free to bring them along. Please wear sturdy boots and come prepared for the weather on the day – waterproofs, layers, sun hat, suncream as appropriate! You may wish to bring a drink for when we are in the field. A notepad and pen/pencil may be useful.

Places are FREE but limited, so booking is essential.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Fife Nature Records Centre at nature.info@fife.gov.uk or 03451 55 55 55 ext 402 270.

This event is organised by Fife Nature Records Centre (part of Fife Coast and Countryside Trust) and led by experts from British Bryological Society. It is made possible thanks to support from Fife Council and Scottish Natural Heritage.
