Bruce Beasley Studio Tour
Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (PST)
West Oakland is the home to internationally known sculptor, Bruce Beasley. Bruce’s work can be seen internationally in exhibitions and as public art commissions. In 1962, Bruce gained the recognition of becoming the youngest artist (at only 22 years old) to have his or her work in the collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Over the years Bruce has experimented with a variety of materials including acrylic, cast bronze, cast iron, stainless steel, granite, and wood. Bruce is also a prominent community activist in his Prescott-Oakland Point neighborhood.
This event will include a behind-the-scenes tour of Bruce Beasley’s West Oakland studio and sculpture garden. Bruce plans to turn this complex over to the Oakland Museum of California after his death. The space will be the permanent home for his work and will serve the sculpture community.
Bruce Beasley was born in Los Angeles and studied at Dartmouth College and received his B.A. at the University of California, Berkeley.
STUDIO TOUR PARTICIPANTS MUST ARRIVE AT 322 LEWIS STREET NO LATER THAN 10AM. STUDIO TOUR WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY.

February 15th is new date for BEASLEY STUDIO TOUR!
We are expected to have cold, heavy rain on Saturday morning, February 8.
Since much of Bruce’s sculpture is large, and enjoying his outdoor sculpture garden is part of the fun,
we have decided tp move the event ahead one week to February 15, at the same time,
because we believe the next week will provide a better opportunity to enjoy Bruce’s sculpture and studio.
Thank you for your patience. We hope to see you all on the new date, Feb 15th!
