Refugee Sponsorship in The Workplace

The uOttawa Refugee Hub is promoting it's 2019 BVOR refugee sponsorship fund that will cover the settlement-side costs associated with sponsorship. Workplace-based refugee sponsorship occurs when employees of a workplace, and potentially the company itself, forms groups to help refugee newcomers settle and integrate into life in their new community. The Refugee Hub is looking to the Impact Hub Ottawa to help them to recruit sponsors for the ~1000 BVOR spaces remaining for refugees to resettle to Canada.
Jaz is a project officer with the Refugee Hub’s Innovation Lab (HIL) working to incubate and grow initiatives and ideas that have the potential to transform the refugee landscape. Prior to this, Jaz was finishing her PhD on queering refugee law and international relations through the University of Melbourne, Australia. During this time, she was also a director of Kaleidoscope Human Rights Foundation, an LGBTI non-profit based in Australia and a member of the Commonwealth Equality Network, the first accredited LGBTI organization in the Commonwealth. Jaz has been a visiting fellow at Carleton University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
