October SPARK: Setting client expectations: Project scoping for freelancers

Are you just starting out and have no idea what to charge for your work? An experienced freelancer curious how to prevent client issues from arising mid-project?

This interactive workshop will walk you through best practices for scoping projects, from setting rates to setting boundaries. You don’t have to figure it all out alone!

We’ll cover:

  • How to clearly scope your project--and why it matters

  • Guidelines for setting rates

  • Avoiding issues with clients

October's Spark will be having a guest speaker, Margina Dennis, B.A. Esthetician

Margina Dennis has making the world a little more beautiful for over 15 years.  She has worked her magic on celebrities such as Tracy Morgan, Jane Lynch, Lea Michelle, and Tom Brady and it's been seen on screens big and small.  Her work has graced the pages Teen Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, and L’Officiel Homme;  hired on campaigns/commercials  for MCM, CVS, Hugo Boss, and Target.   Her approach to her work  is to keep it simple.  “I’m a firm believer in keeping people looking like themselves, enhancing the look so that they can be the best that they can be.  I call it “You 2.0’.”

In addition to her makeup skills, Margina spent 4 years as Beauty Director for LA’G Magazine, an online publication that was referred to as “being as stylish as W Magazine”.  Margina has been a guest speaker at the international HBA conference,  Make Up Designory, and has provided consulting/writing services for beauty companies such as Kiss Beauty, Your Name Professional, Natasha Denona, and Soft Surroundings. She has won two Telly awards, a PDN award,  and was nominated for a regional Emmy.  Margina is further expanding , combining business and her work within the creative industry by developing “Margenius: Business Marketing for Creatives”.   Visit www.marginadennis.com to see her makeup work, https://marginadennis.contently.com for writing and articles she is quoted as an expert.  For creative business tips, check out her beauty blog “At the Beauty Cooler” at http://atthebeautycooler.tumblr.com .
