Brooklyn Dub Club IV
Event Information
About this event
Dub-Stuy is excited to announce the long-awaited return of their Brooklyn Dub Club series. For this homecoming session, they’ve pulled all the stops to bring together an epic lineup celebrating the diversity of genres that have been integral to sound system culture over the past decades. Headlining this stacked lineup will be none other than Dancehall icon Sister Nancy, who will be making her second appearance on Dub-Stuy’s sound system after a Boiler Room session back in 2017. Mungo’s Hi-Fi, one of UK’s top sound systems, mark their return to the states, this time alongside Bristol-based vocalist Gardna.
Supporting will be Dub-Stuy's own Bukkha, whose recent releases on Infernal Sounds and System Music have put him at the forefront of the UK dubstep scene. Bent Backs Sound and JonnyGo Figure will rep Brooklyn following the success of their EP “Crucial Showcase”. Hailing from Bogota, El Gran Latido Sound System will bring the vibes from the other side of the Americas. As always, Dub-Stuy Sound and Hilla Bundem host the festivities throughout the night
Brooklyn Dub Club IV takes place at the Brooklyn Monarch, a new venue coincidentally located right next to the now defunct Paperbox.
About Sister Nancy
Sister Nancy is known to the world as the first female dancehall DJ and was the “dominating female voice for over two decades” within the male-dominated scene. Nancy’s 1982 hit ‘Bam Bam’ is arguably the most sampled and remixed Reggae track ever, with Pitchfork naming it The Best Dancehall Song of All Time. It has been sampled, referenced and reworked by almost everyone from Kanye West to Lauryn Hill to Wiz Khalifa. She’s been cited as a role model for successive generations of female Reggae acts including Lady Saw, Sister Carol, Mack Diamond, Lady G, Shelly Thunder, Carla Marshall, Lorna G, Lady English, and Lady P.
