Event Details

Registration Information:

You will be able to submit your video link beginning on February 1st, 2015.

Please provide a link to an UNEDITED performance video up to 5 minutes in length on YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook. For web series submissions ONLY, your video may be longer.

For non web series submissions, if your video is longer than 5 minutes we will still review it, but we may not watch beyond the first five minutes.

You do NOT upload your video directly though this application. As you go through the submission process, there will be a space for your video link.

Please make sure your video is NOT set to private.  If we can’t watch it, we can’t review it, and because of time constraints we won’t be able to contact you and tell you that.  Nor will we be able to refund your submission fee.

Audio and video quality are crucial.  We don’t expect you to hire a film crew, but if we can’t hear your set, we can’t book you.  We’d also like to be able to see you, as opposed to a blob under a distant spotlight.

We watch every video that is submitted, but we make no promise to watch every single second of every video.  Also, you may have a set where you killed it with crowd work, but all crowds are different.  You should submit a set with mostly prepared material.

Brooklyn Comedy Festival FAQ:

Q.  What are the dates for Brooklyn Comedy Festival 2015?
A.  The performance dates for the 2015 festival are August 24th through the 29th.

Q.  What if I can’t be there for the entire run of the festival?
A.  If you are not available for all dates, please let us know your availably when you submit.

Q.  What types of comedy are able to submit?
A.  All types! Stand-up, sketch, improv, duo, musical comedy, character, storytelling, web series...

Q.  How many people who submit via this process will be chosen to perform?
A.  We cannot determine in advance how many people will be chosen to perform. It really depends on the quality of submissions, so send us your best!

Q.  As an improv team, sketch group, duo, etc, does each member need to submit? Or is just one submission under one member okay?
A.  Your group only needs to submit under one member.  We don't want you to spend $80 if you have a group of eight people!

Q.  How long will my set be if I’m accepted?
A.  Approximately 7-12 minutes for standup. Sketch and improv sets will vary depending on the number of teams/venue time constraints/etc, but will be appropriate for the type of comedy being performed (15-20 minutes).

Q.  When can I expect to hear back about my submission?
A.  We’ll email those we’ve chosen to perform before July 1st.

Q.  Will you let me know if I do NOT get accepted to perform at the festival?
A.  We will only contact those who we are accepting. If you do not hear from us by the acceptance deadline, please assume you have not been accepted this year. If you have paid gigs the weekend of Brooklyn Comedy Festival, please don’t turn them down on our account. Also, don’t take a rejection to mean we don’t think you’re funny -- we just might not have room.

Q.  Is there a competition associated with the festival?
A.  No, just six great days of comedy!

Q.  Will Brooklyn Comedy Festival pay for my travel and/or lodging expenses if I am selected to perform?
A.  No, you must arrange for your own travel and lodging during the festival.

Q.  Is it okay for me to book paid gigs in the New York City area any time before, after, or during the festival?
A.  Yes, of course!

Q.  What should my submission tape consist of?
A.  A great submission would consist of a 3-5 minute clip with clear audio and video of an unedited chunk of comedy that showcases your strengths, and has a lot of laughs in the first few minutes, since that’s the first thing we see.

Q.  If I am not chosen to perform, can I get my submission fee refunded?
A.  Sorry, we cannot provide refunds if you are not chosen to perform.
