Description

About the Workshop

Equity in science communication and engagement is a major priority for many of us. Yet we often work within organizations that have not deeply infused equity into all aspects of the institution’s work.

If you are interested in engaging your colleagues, staff, boards, or others in reflecting on the ways your organization or programs deeply address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, this highly interactive, half-day workshop is for you. The workshop is hosted by Bronwyn Bevan, Cecilia Garibay, and Sunshine Menezes on behalf of the CAISE Broadening Participation Task Force.

Workshop Outcomes

  • You will gain familiarity with a suite of professional development tools that you can use to engage your colleagues in reflecting on your own programs and organization.
  • You will gain insights into how to organize and manage workplace conversations about equity
.
  • You will expand your social networks to include colleagues who are also actively pursuing efforts to shift workplace cultures towards deeper prioritization of equity
.
  • You will leave with a set of tools (free and online) to lead discussions

Workshop Agenda

Part 1: Why Equity in education requires equity in the workplace: What research says
Part 2: Topics and tools to engage your colleagues or staff in reflection
Part 3: Tips and strategies for managing productive reflective conversations
