About this Event

This year, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is commemorating 25 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which is described as “the most visionary agenda for women’s rights and empowerment everywhere.” The document does not specifically mention menstrual health’s integral role in advancing gender equality; however, times have certainly changed in the nearly three decades since the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women.

On a given day, nearly 800 million women and girls are menstruating around the globe. Thankfully, the international community has started to recognize the impact that menstruation has on advancing gender equality through health, education, self-esteem, career advancement, and overall agency. This has resulted in substantial growth in global menstrual health programming and a diversification of menstrual products over the past decade which have been incorporated into the programming of varies sectors within development and humanitarian intervention.

It’s become evident that to advance gender equality is to recognize menstruation’s impact on the lives of women and girls from all walks of life from all parts of the world. Today's conversation will emphasize what actions we can take to integrate menstrual health into the greater issue of gender inequality, highlighting best practices, key challenges, and how we can work together to ensure a gender-equitable world.

A networking reception and menstrual kit packing party will follow the panel event.
