Morning Sessions 9:30 – 12:30 100% Renewable Meetings to 100% Renewable Communities

An introduction to the national movement to transition to safe, renewable energy in line with the International Paris Agreement to prevent the worst impacts of climate disruption. Friends and other faith leaders are part of this movement to accelerate the transition away from polluting fossil fuels. Learn about a congregation that aspires to be net zero and how to encourage action to create local energy policies.

Workshop leaders:

Paula Kline, Eco-Justice Collaborative (Westtown Monthly Meeting)

Chuck Marshall, Central Baptist Church, Wayne, PA

Afternoon Sessions 1:30 – 4:30 pm Renewable Energy Opportunities for Friends and others

Efficiency for your Meeting and Home:

Using energy more efficiently is an essential part of the strategy to lower carbon emissions. Everyone has a role to play, whether at home or in our Meetinghouses. There will always be a demand for energy, but the way we use it, and the amount we use, needs to change. In most cases, it is possible to save energy and save money at the same time whilst still getting a more comfortable home. Learn from inspiring examples in Philadelphia and about efficiency measures you can take right away.

Workshop Leader: Liz Robinson, former director of the Energy Coordinating Agency (Central Philadelphia Meeting)

Solarize: How neighbors can work together to install solar

Solarize is a well-respected tool to help individuals determine whether solar is right for them, reduces the costs through a group commitment to purchase from an installer, and streamlines the permitting process. Friends in Media have recently completed a very successful solarize campaign. Come learn how to bring solar to your community.

Workshop Leader: Meenal Raval, Solarize Campaigns

Community level renewable opportunities

This workshop will focus on community solar opportunities, clean energy investments, carbon markets and advocating for environmental stewardship. When William Penn granted land to Friends, he could never have imagined that Pennsylvania would become ground zero for polluting fuels from coal to oil to gas. As we move away from the fossil fuels that are putting our future in peril, learn how Friends can take leadership in modeling and advocating for local, safe, clean energy.

Workshop leaders:

Liz Robinson, former director of the Energy Coordinating Agency, (Central Philadelphia Meeting)

Mark Connolly, engineer (Schuylkill Meeting)
