NOTE: This 12-hour workshop is split into TWO Saturday sessions (July 8 and July 15) from 9:30-4:30 both days with 1-hour lunch breaks.
Baby Proof Your Relationship!
How will a baby change your relationship? Research shows 50-68% of couples experience a sharp decline in relationship satisfaction in the first years of baby's life. The good news? We know what the thriving couples do differently!
Bringing Baby Home is a 2-day, research-based AND research-tested workshop that equips couples with critical insights and practical tools to make the transition to parenthood with confidence. While hospitals and other community groups offer excellent classes on baby care basics, breastfeeding, and CPR, few (if any) spend more than a few minutes explaining how babies shake up relationships and what couples need to know to maintain high levels of relationship satisfaction as they become a parenting power couple.
During this workshop, couples will learn how to:
- strengthen their friendship and connect meaningfully after baby
- constructively manage stress and conflict
- improve the way they communicate and compromise
- identify postpartum anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues and respond appropriately
- reduce hostility and the incidence and/or severity of postpartum mood disorders
- meet their children's emotional and psychological needs
- develop co-parenting strategies and ensure quality involvement for both parents
- create shared meaning and build a family legacy
This workshop is ideal for:
- Couples trying to conceive or adopt
- Couples expecting a baby
NOTE: Materials and snacks/refreshments are included in the registration fee. Three early bird spaces available per class.
Where will the workshop be held?
The exact address will be emailed to registered couples a few weeks in advance, along with other reminders. The workshop location will either be in Frisco or north Plano, depending on the size of the group.
What time should we arrive?
Couples are encouraged to arrive by 9:15 a.m. to park, locate the workshop, check-in, etc. We'll get started promptly at 9:30 a.m.
What is provided, and what should we bring?
All materials required for the class will be there for you...just come eager to learn, try out some new tools, and have a great time with your partner! Dress casually and comfortably. Some snacks/refreshments will be provided. Participants will have a 1-hour lunch break both days. You may bring your own lunch (we have a fridge), or you'll have time to grab something from a nearby restaurant.
What should we expect?
This is an interactive class for couples making the transition to parenthood. The workshop facilitator will lead demos and share best practices, and there will be opportunities to interact with the facilitator and other couples. You will also have plenty of time to engage in the activities and discussions privately with your partner.
What is the cancellation policy?
All cancellations made at least two full weeks in advance will receive refunds, less a $25 cancellation fee. If you prefer to transfer to another 2017 workshop date, you may do so up to two full weeks in advance with no penalty. No refunds will be issued within two weeks of the workshop. Enrollment minimums are required for a workshop to "make." If the facilitator has to cancel a workshop due to low enrollment, or other unforeseen circumstances, couples will receive full refunds.
