A new child entering the family brings joy and change. In the first few months after a new baby’s arrival, 40 to 70 percent of couples report experiencing “stress, profound conflict, and drops in marital satisfaction,” according to a series of studies conducted over the past thirteen years by The Gottman Institute. http://www.gottman.com/ According to the Gottman's research "even the strongest relationships are strained during the transition to parenthood. Lack of sleep, never-ending housework and new fiscal concerns can lead to profound stress and a decline in marital satisfaction" – all of which also affect baby’s care. Not surprisingly, 67% of new parents experience conflict, disappointment and hurt feelings.
Fortunately, there are some small and simple steps couples can take to improve communication with each other and with baby! "Small things often" is the Mantra of this program. Learning simple communication tools such as responding to emotional bids, enhancing friendship and intimacy, and communicating with gentle approaches toward conflict, can improve and strengthen the foundation of the family. This seminar will also provide helpful information about interacting with baby. Reading baby for signs of distress or environmental overload as well as for happiness and contentment can help parents respond lovingly and appropriately to baby's needs.
As a result of this training, you will learn how to:
*Strengthen your relationship
*Effectively manage stress and conflict
*Recognize and respond to postpartum mood anxiety and adjustment issues and postpartum depression
*Meet the emotional and psychological needs of a child
*Keep both parents actively involved in parenting roles and responsibilities
