BRIGHTjourney ™ is a diagnostic and treatment model developed by Dr. Katrina Bright Cochran.

The Cost

The Seminar

This instructional seminar has been developed to introduce professionals in the areas of mental health and medicine to a treatment approach and therapeutic method of working with patients blending cognitive behavioral and family system theories.

The seminar presents the five therapeutic Questions of Identity, the theoretical background and the research of self-esteem and spirituality from which the five questions were developed. Instruction concerning the direct application of this theory to a professional practice setting will be offered.

The Objectives

Participants of this workshop will:

  1. Learn the five questions ofidentity and ways to apply this methodology to their professional practice.
  2. Be able to define the fundamental concepts of spirituality and self-esteem as presented in this seminar.
  3. Learn new treatment options for use with their patients.
  4. Explore appropriate psychological and/or medical interventions using videos, workbooks and multi-media to increase treatment efficacy.
  5. Discuss the aspects of self-esteem and spirituality that contribute to mental health/illness issues.
  6. Outline the ethical issues associated with patient care in this treatment modality.

Theoretical constructs, ethical issues and definitions developed

10:00 a.m. Break

10:20 a.m. Development of the 5 Questions of Identity for clinical application | Image, Competency, Direction, Values and Legacy

12:15 p.m. Lunch Break

1:00 p.m. The use of the genogram in diagnostic and treatment planning | Strengths, weaknesses and ethical issues explored

2:30 p.m. Break

2:50 p.m. Lecture/ discussion/demonstration of the use of multi-media, workbooks, journaling and scrapbooking in individual and group therapy settings.

4:30 p.m. Question and answer period.

5:00 p.m. Adjourn

Continuing Education Credit

This workshop is pending 7.5 hours of Continuing Education Credits for Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors and for Licensed Marriageand Family Therapists.

The Format

Combining the use of PowerPoint segments and lecture, Dr. Bright Cochran will introduce and explore each of the five questions of identity in-depth. Discussion will follow the development of each question and then further lecture and presentation will be used to demonstrate the clinical application of these five questions. Additionally, the research bibliography will be given to each participant, as well as sample pages of the workbook written by the author.

The Presenter

Katrina H. Bright Cochran, Ph.D., is a counseling psychologist with a private clinical practice, specializing in marriage and family therapy, identity issues for men and women, adolescent and child treatment and group psychotherapy. She holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Oklahoma as well as a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Oklahoma State University. The question of what do I believe?

How did I form my beliefs?

How do I examine my values?

What are the risks in challenging my values?

Q5 - Legacy:

The question of what shall I leave behind?

What is my purpose in life?

How do I learn to forgive?

How can I live a life of substance?
