Event description

Description

If you're thinking about starting a backyard beehive or are just curious about what's involved with keeping honey bees, then this is a great overview class for you! Join members of the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild as they share their experience as apiarists in Philadelphia. We will walk you through a beekeeper's typical first year so you know what to expect. We will share what local resources are available to help you succeed. This class is for absolute beginners. So, no prerequisite knowledge is required. Bring your curiosity and your questions! We host the class in the Agricultural Village of Awbury Arboretum where the Guild maintains an Apirary. Weather and time permitting, we may be able to step outside for a quick tour of the hives.

Note:

Parking is limited in the Agricultural Village but is abundant on the bordering streets of Ardleigh and Washington Avenue. The Education Center building is just a short walk from either the entrance on Washington Lane or Ardleigh.
