Event description

Description

Join us in cultivating a multi-faith space of respectful inquiry, authentic examination, and communal healing as we consider the historical and cultural forces that have shaped our relationships with each other and this land. Through music and storytelling, presentations and hands-on experiential learning, this two-day event will invite us to engage our hearts and minds in the following questions:

  • What is the Doctrine of Discovery, and what are its effects in our local context?

  • What does it mean to repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery? Consequently, what kind of behaviors and relationships are we required to re-examine or change in our lives and in our institutions?

  • What is historical trauma, and how does it impact the people of this region?

  • How can we bring about inter-cultural changes to foster healing and wholeness for all people?

Speakers and facilitators include: Dr. Tami DeCoteau, Joseph McNeil Jr., Ron His Horse is Thunder, Jesse Taken Alive, Dakota Goodhouse, and Prairie Rose Seminole.

This event is planned by the Faith Alliance for Racial Justice and co-sponsored by Faith Lutheran Church, Heart River Lutheran Church, Bismarck United Church of Christ, and Bismarck-Mandan Unitarian Universalist Congregation.

Registration fee covers Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, all materials, and a Friday evening concert with the American Horse Family and other local musicians.
