The Bridgewatch Angels will dedicate Christmas Eve to saving lives on the Golden Gate Bridge. The holidays can trigger feelings of loss, inadequacy, low self-esteem, disconnection, emptiness, and rejection. Join us as we greet everyone we meet with smiles and well wishes. Our primary focus will be to engage individuals on the bridge who are walking alone, displaying negative body posture, or lingering mid-span.
The iconic Golden Gate Bridge is the top suicide destination in the world. In 2015, nearly 40 men, women, and children jumped to their death. This year, there has been 200 successful interventions by the Bridge District Police and the Bridgewatch Angels volunteers. Unfortunately, many suicides have occurred with an unusually high number of teenagers this year. According to police, 2 to 3 people a day are coming to the bridge to end their lives.
Christmas Eve will be divided into 2 shifts (9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm). We will greet you in front of the Bridge Cafe on the San Francisco side for a brief orientation at the beginning of your shift. Please indicate which shift you will volunteer for by selecting a ticket. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
After signing up on Eventbrite, please visit the Bridgewatch Angels Facebook Page and select "going" on our Bridgewatch Angels Christmas Eve Event. This is important so you can receive instructions, updates and helpful tips to plan your day with us. We are also a community and love to help each other before the big day.
We would be very appreciative if you could also share our Christmas Eve event on your Facebook Page.
