COVID-19 Update: (March 18, 2020) The Bridges Workshop is scheduled to go on as planned at this time. We have recieved confirmation from our speaker as well as our venue that they are still on board. We will review this decison in two weeks and make and further announcements at that time.

The Bridges Empowering Boone & Winnebago Counties Steering Committee invites you to attend the Bridges Out of Poverty Community Workshop.

Reducing the social costs of poverty, strengthening the workforce, and building a more prosperous and sustainable community are goals on which most communities agree. aha! Process’s Bridges Out of Poverty workshops help employers, community organizations, social service agencies, and individuals address and reduce poverty in a comprehensive way. Bridges brings people from all sectors and economic classes together to improve job retention rates, build resources, improve outcomes, and support those who are moving out of poverty.

Participants will learn more about:

  • Language experience, cognitive issues, and barriers to change
  • How to use mental models to communicate effectively
  • Skills of mediation
  • Relationship building and mentoring

Throughout the workshop, participants will receive specific strategies for improving outcomes, the Workshop also introduces strategies for changing program designs, policies, and procedures.

This training assists employers, community organizations, social service agencies, faith leaders, and individuals gain insight on the complexities of poverty and strategies for their respective work. All levels of staff are encouraged to attend including leadership, management, and case managers.

Our community's goal of the Workshop is to begin to build a comprehensive community-wide approach to reducing poverty and to create a structure to support and maintain our long term Bridges Out of Poverty initiative.

Presenter: Terie Dreussi-Smith, M.A.Ed. has been an author/consultant with aha! Process since 1997 and is experienced in bringing diverse audiences to new understandings and paradigms with practical knowledge, humor, and sincerity. Terie has years of both direct and midlevel management experience working with youth and adults in poverty. Her areas of expertise are health and wellness initiatives, K–12 education, higher education, alcohol and other drug prevention, community youth development, and community wellness.

The $40 registration fee includes lunch and refreshments.
