Event description
Transport yourself to Los Angeles 1972, and watch Aretha Franklin's legendary performance with the Southern California Community.

About this Event

BRIC JazzFest features two films that shed light on some of the most influential artists and historical moments in jazz: Blue Note Records: Beyond The Notes and Amazing Grace.

Amazing Grace (2018) | Directed by Allen Elliott & Sydney Pollack | 90mins

Over two days in January of 1972, Aretha Franklin sang at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles, backed by the Southern California Community Choir. A film crew was there to record, and the audio became Franklin’s biggest selling album. The film’s release has taken decades, and it is worth the wait. The film is “nothing short of a miracle.” (The Washington Post)

Now celebrating its fifth year, Brooklyn's ultimate jazz festival will take place October 19-26, featuring music, film, poetry, and a three-night, three-stage live music marathon with overlapping sets by global legends, groundbreaking artists, and exciting newcomers to jazz.

The BRIC JazzFest Music Marathon will take place Thursday-Saturday, October 24-26, featuring performances by more than 20 artists including headliners Ravi Coltrane (quartet); Georgia Anne Muldrow; and Joe Russo, Ben Perowsky, Josh Kaufman & Stuart Bogie : BOYFRIENDS. The Henson | Soule Team at Compass joins BRIC JazzFest as Presenting Sponsor.
