Part of 'The Stone at The Drawing Center: Music and Visuals,' six nights of performances organized by John Zorn, September 12-17, 2017 in the museum's Lab.

Doors open at 7:00pm. Please arrive on time. We cannot guarantee entry or seating after 7:30pm, and we cannot offer refunds.

Brian Marsella is a composer and musician who was influenced early on by ragtime and classical music. Known as a versatile pianist, he has toured internationally with Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptistas bands, Beat the Donkey and Banquet of the Spirits, and is also the leader of the sonic theater supergroup, iMAGiNARiUM. At The Drawing Center, Marsella will present a live score for the 1920 German Expressionist film, 'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.' Marsella was a resident at The Stone in 2016.

'The Stone at The Drawing Center: Music and Visuals'
Organized by John Zorn

John Zorn founded The Stone, a project space for experimental music, in 2005. At its former location in the Lower East Side, the venue hosted more than 7,500 music performances, spanning genres from avant-jazz to contemporary classical. Before The Stone moves to its new Greenwich Village space at the New School for Social Research next year, The Drawing Center will host a number of performances by the venues alumni, including: Marco Cappelli and VJ Andrea Lapsus Pennisi, Zeena Parkins and Thomas Dunn, Marc Ribot, Ikue Mori and Craig Taborn, Sara Serpa, and Brian Marsella.

About John Zorn

Born and raised in New York City, composer/performer John Zorn has been a central figure in the Downtown scene since 1975, incorporating a wide variety of creative musicians into various compositional formats. His work is remarkably diverse and draws inspiration from art, literature, film, theater, philosophy, alchemy, and mysticism, as well as music. He founded the Tzadik label in 1995 and has edited and published seven volumes of musicians writings under the title 'Arcana.'
