Event description
We are delighted to welcome Gavin Esler to Bath. Gavin will talk about research for his latest book and why he campaigns to stop Brexit.

About this Event

Will Brexit boost jobs? Or wreck the NHS? And what about food shortages?

From strawberries to passports, the broadcaster and journalist Gavin Esler presents a no-nonsense guide to the most momentous change in British life for decades. In seven succinct chapters, he sets out how leaving the European Union will affect:

  • Food and diet
  • Health and the NHS
  • Jobs and industry
  • Education
  • Travel to Europe

From the food markets of Kent to NHS operating theatres to the boardrooms of big employers, Brexit throws up many surprises. Some are deeply unpleasant. Brexit Without the Bulls**t is not about the Brexit you were told you were getting. It’s about the one that is arriving.

About the Speaker

Gavin Esler is journalist, television presenter and author. He was a main presenter of the BBC current affairs show Newsnight for 12 years until 2014. Gavin was born in Glasgow, and brought up in Edinburgh and Northern Ireland. He worked at The Belfast Telegraph and the BBC in Belfast during some of the worst of ‘the Troubles’. Since 2014, he has been the Chancellor of the University of Kent, a public speaker, and a political commentator and journalist. He is the author of five thrillers and three non-fiction books, including Brexit Without the Bullshit, which explains how leaving the EU would change ordinary British life, from food to travel. In 2019, he stood for Change UK in the London region for election to the European Parliament. He regularly contributes to the New European newspaper.
