Event description

Description

This seminar will explain how EU nationals living in the UK can secure their right of living in the UK after March 2019.

Our Immigration and Nationality Law specialist will provide an understanding of what people are currently entitled to under the rules. We will also provide a better understanding of what the proposed changes will mean as and when they are finally published and brought into law.

This talk will answer some of the most commonly asked questions about the status of EU nationals living and working in the UK after UK leaves the EU in March 2019.

We will explain why you should take steps to secure your right of living in the UK now and not leave it until the new rules come into force.

Finally, we will also go through the EEA (PR) application form step by step and show you how to answer the questions on the form.

You will get answers to the following and many other questions.

1. What is the impact of the referendum on the status of EEA nationals living in the UK?

2. What steps should EEA nationals consider taking to protect their position?

3. What is the proposed “Settled Status” and the permanent residency (PR) document? What paperwork will you need? What will they cost?

4. What are the common pitfalls/problems that arise for permanent residence applications?

5. Can absences from the UK break continuity for permanent residence purposes?

6. What information do you have to provide in relation to absences from the UK for permanent residence applications?

7. Can you choose the five year period to rely on for the application?

8. What does the application process for permanent residence involve?

9. How quickly will the application be processed?

10. Is it possible to lose permanent residence?

11. If you do not meet the requirements for permanent residence, should you apply for a registration certificate?

12. Do you have to submit your passport or national ID card when applying for permanent residence?

13. Can EEA nationals apply for British citizenship?

14. What are the main routes to naturalisation as a British citizen for an EEA national?

15. What other requirements apply for applications to naturalise as a British citizen?

16. What are the potential drawbacks to becoming a British national?

17. Can British citizenship be lost?

18. What is the status of the children of EEA nationals?

We will also look at 5 case studies which include common issues in EEA applications.
