Event description

Description

We're excited to invite you to a very special Brew Class.

Our Head of Education, John Kruegler, qualified earlier this year to compete in the US National Coffee Championships Brewers Cup. This is part of an international competition circuit for coffee professionals that includes competition for roasters, coffee cupping, baristas, cocktails, and coffee brewers. John qualified at a regional competition in Washington, DC, and one of two national qualifiers in Nashville, TN to earn a spot in the national competition held this year in Kansas City, MO, March 15-17, 2019. Winners from each participating nation will then go on to World Coffee Championships held in Boston, MA.

Brewers Cup competitors select a coffee of their choice and develop a brewing method that best presents that coffee's characteristics. Competitors prepare a 10 minute presentation for a panel of professional coffee tasters that includes brewing and serving the coffee as well as talking about why it was chosen and the characteristics the judges should expect to taste. In addition to the presentation, competitors are judged on the coffee's quality and the accuracy of its description.

John has been preparing for this competition for months, roasting dozens of samples of potential competition coffees before selecting a Natural Process Red Bourbon from Finca La Cristalina in Colombia. Once the competition coffee was selected, John began the painstaking process of developing a roast profile and honing his brewing technique to present the best possible version of this wild and exciting coffee.

No matter what the results of the competition are, we wanted all of you to have a chance to taste the fruits of John's labor in preparing for the Brewer's Cup, so this month's Brew Class will allow you to learn John's competition recipe and technique, and taste the incredible Natural Red Bourbon from Finca La Cristalina.

As always, admission is free and there will be coffee and brewing equipment for sale if you're ready to upgrade your home coffee brewing station. We will also be releasing the Natural Red Bourbon from Finca La Cristalina at this Brew Class. We have a very limited amount for sale to the public, so grab a bag while you can.
