About this Event

Noise Pop Festival 2020:

Bren Joy, Michael Sneed at Cafe Du Nord

Friday February 28 , 2020

This show is all ages. Doors at 6PM. All sales are final.

Bren Joy was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and started writing music at the start of 2018.

In the same year he released his first three singles (Henny in the Hamptons, Scottie Pippen, Twenties) that earned placements on editorial playlists and attracted a growing fanbase to the budding artist's career.

In May of the following year, Bran released his debut project, Twenties, an eight-song tracklist that embodies the new era
of youth coming into the scene. It merges Bren's love of gospel, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, & pop all into one. It touches on the different emotions and experiences you encounter during the beginning of your twenties, while conveying an underlying theme of hope and self-love. It embraces the musical culture we are in now, while highlighting something completely new. This project is in its own lane, and attempts to redefine the mainstream sound and bring something new to your ear.

At 17, Michael Sneed moved to Washington D.C., where he made a name for himself in the open mic circuit, through warehouse performances, and eventually found himself playing local venues and festival stages. In 2017, Michael returned home to Oakland, CA. A college graduate working as a Starbucks clerk in a Safeway. Drenched in student loans, post-college depression, and the stench of coffee, Michael decided it was time for him to work on his first mixtape. Staying relatively lowkey, Michael spent a year inside of Bay Area producer, Wax Roof's house working on the project with his friends. The kinky haired, Mario mustached, Broadway musical loving, Oakland native uses music as a tool to tell stories and lessons fro his childhood as he runs down memory lane and away from the responsibilities of young adulthood. Michael is building a world where elements of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Funk, and Folk come together as one to express a boy, on the cusp of adulthood desperately clinging onto his childlike creativity, purity, and innocence.

Michael on "Days We Lost": "Days We Lost is a mixtape about a kid who is desperately fighting to hold onto his childlike purity, honesty, and creativity but is challenged by misfortune, pain, loss, and societal standards. We put this project together when I was transitioning out of college into full-fledged adulthood. I returned home to a gentrified Oakland. An Oakland that was very different than the Oakland that I grew up in. I had to work jobs that I hated, experienced heartbreak for the first time, and unfortunately lost a few friends. We captured that period in time and cultivated a story. This project exists to remind us of the memories and childhood lessons we’ve almost forgotten. I want this tape to offer people moments of joy, freedom, love, sorrow, and healing. My friends and I worked hard on these songs and are happy that we get to take the time to kick back and appreciate those who enjoy them."
