Event description

Description

Yoga and Martial Arts teach us that 'breathing is the link between the body and mind'.

Breathing is a subject that is often overlooked in many conventional practices. Many times it is only developed while sitting still, in static postures, or used as a method of stress release and recovery. Or we are told to breathe only after we have already exerted ourselves and need to 'catch our breath'. These are purely reactive uses of the breath. We will focus on more proactive uses that give us an endless myriad of health benefits and increase our performance level.

We will start by examining the physical function of the breath. Then we will explore how to use it to move the body in every aspect of daily life, exercise, and arts. This creates simplified, effortless movement with minimal tension and stress. Over time this improves many things: range of motion, rehab from injury, lowers blood pressure, increases work capacity, lowers stress levels, improves sleep and supports the immune system.

Imagine being able to walk 6 flights of stairs and not get winded or exerted. Imagine running a mile in the summer or taking your favorite dance class and not breaking a sweat. Imagine the next time a stressful situation occurs you can respond properly without intense emotion.

Our goal is to develop tools for everything life has to throw at us- and it all starts with breathing!
