About this Event

Bonking, or hitting the wall, can be a backpacker’s worst nightmare!

Have you experienced that overwhelming feeling when your body is just so tired that you are forced to stop?

Or noticed a change in your normal behavior and felt moody or confused?

That’s bonking!

...and it occurs when your body runs out of glucose (carbohydrate) to burn for energy. Fortunately, there are things you can do to prevent bonking, and most are nutrition related!

During the talk, you will learn:

  1. What is bonking?
  2. What causes bonking?
  3. What are the signs and symptoms?
  4. What to do if you bonk?
  5. How to prevent bonking.
  6. What to eat before, during and after hiking – how much and how often.
  7. How to account for extreme conditions.

RECIPE DEMONSTRATION:

Aaron will also provide a recipe demo for one of her favorite meal replacement drinks that you can use when you feel the wall coming.

QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION:

The talk will close with a Q&A session where you can ask your own questions about meal planning for upcoming adventures.
