Event description

Description

The African American Mental Health Symposium is being hosted by GFM The Synergy Center to help shift the dialogue of African American Mental health on the 400th year anniversary since slavery.

This one-day event is aimed at shifting the dialogue of African American Mental health on the 400th year anniversary since slavery. It will address the real issues of AA Mental Health, the generational impact of trauma, the role of the church, developing culturally sustaining practices, professional obligations and more. It will provide tools to navigate systems and strategies for effective treatment options.

This event provides a day-long microscopic examination at the stigmas affecting African Americans in today’s society. You will get immediate insight into the mental health challenges faced by the Black culture, and strategies on how to navigate the “system” and advocate for the under-served. Take an up-close look at the professional obligations of the community to the community and a candid look at generational trauma and its impact on society.

Expert speakers will address the real issues of AA Mental Health, the generational impact of trauma, the role of the church, developing culturally sustaining practices, professional obligations and more, and will provide tools to navigate systems and strategies for effective treatment options.
