Please join us for Ruth’s List Broward inaugural Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award Ceremony and Cocktail Reception at Boatyard Restaurant on Thursday, September 26, 2019 (in the Flagship Private Dining Room). Guests will enjoy passed hot and cold tapas, open bar, guest speakers and awards program. Approximately 150 guests will attend this upscale and intimate event and have the opportunity to network with the Broward Community, local current and future candidates, and influential community leaders.

Commissioner of Dept. of Agriculture Nicole “Nikki” Fried

Nicole “Nikki” Fried, Florida’s 12th Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, is a lifelong Floridian, attorney and passionate activist.

Born and raised in Miami, Commissioner Fried graduated from the University of Florida, where she received her bachelor’s, master’s and juris doctorate degrees. While in law school, she served as student body president, the first woman to hold the position in nearly two decades.

Prior to being elected, Fried worked as an advocate in Tallahassee representing at-risk children, the Broward County School Board, and for the expansion of patient access to medical marijuana.

Throughout her career she has served with numerous organizations including the Young Lawyers Board of Governors, Broward Days Board of Directors, Legal Needs of Children Bar Committee, LeRoy Collins Institute, Girls Scouts of Southeast Florida, University of Florida Governmental Relations Advisory Committee, University of Florida Board of Trustees, Florida’s Children First, and others. Fried is a member of Florida Blue Key, the oldest and most prestigious leadership honorary in the state of Florida.


LGBTQ Consumer Advocate for Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services Nik Harris

Nik Harris most recently served as Senior Attorney at the Florida Department of Transportation, and has previously served as Assistant General Counsel at FDOT and as the Claims Administration Director for the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority. Previously, Harris served at the Florida Department of Health's Prosecution Services Unit as an Assistant General Counsel responsible for litigating administrative cases before the Department of Administrative Hearings, investigating and recommending proceedings to Board concerning medical professionals requiring assistance with substance abuse issues, letters of reprimand, suspension, revocation, fines, and more. Harris has been a longtime advocate for the LGBTQ community and equality and diversity, serving as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Florida Bar Association, and has been involved with the Human Rights Campaign as a member of the Board of Governors, Chair of the Steering Committee in South Florida, a National Community Engagement Co-Chair, and a Women & Leadership Fellow. Harris has also been a member of the Dolphin Democrats' Board of Directors and a LGBTA Democratic Caucus member.Harris is a graduate of the Florida State University College of Law and the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University.
